Milestones

BEAM was established for the industry and by the industry as a means to measure, improve and label the environmental performance of buildings. Key milestones include:

2010
Launch of new assessment tools: BEAM Plus New Buildings and BEAM Plus Existing Building; Launch of BEAM Pro Training and Examination Programme; Adoption by BEAM Executive Committee of new organization chard and working committtees structure
2003
revised standards for New (Version 4/03) and Existing (Version 5/03) Building Developments launched to cover all building types at all life stages.
2002
Steering Group formalised into the BEAM Society, establishing a wider membership base upon which to improve and extend the scheme.
2001
strategic BEAM development workshops attract the directors of government departments and bureaus, professional institutions and industry associations.
2000
Cyber-Port becomes the 50th development to be assessed under BEAM.

Work starts on Sun Hung Kai property 'The Parville' later to become the first residential project to achieve an Excellent rating.

1999
BEAM for New Residential Buildings (Version 3/99) introduced, and standards for New Office Designs and Existing Office Premises updated.
1998
Letter of endorsement of BEAM provided by the Planning Environment and Lands Bureau, BEAM Steering Group joined by Hong Kong Housing Authority.
1997
Swire Properties 'Lincoln House' and HSBC Headquarters Building become the first to achieve the Excellent BEAM rating for new and existing offices.
1996
Launch of BEAM for New Office Designs (Version 1/96) and Existing Office Premises (Version 2/96). Four buildings submitted for assessment.
1995
BEAM Steering Group formed by the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, Planning Environment and Lands Bureau, Swire Properties, HongKong Land, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Business Environment Council.
