Our constitution lays out our mode of operation, rules and regulations (click here for the full constitution as a PDF file). In summary, the core objectives of the Society are to:
- Provide a forum for the open development of methodologies to benchmark, assess and label the environmental performance (and in time the sustainability) of buildings;
- Publish these methodologies as a framework for benchmarking and improvement for use by developers, designers, contractors, managers, authorities and academics, etc;
- Train and accredit appropriate professionals as approved certifying agents to evaluate building performance using BEAM;
- Issue BEAM certificates and performance ratings, as assessed by an approved certifying agent, to buildings;
- Administer a building green label, based on the BEAM certification, for use in publicising performance ratings;
- Continually review and enhance the BEAM methodology, coverage, criteria and performance benchmarks, and publish new standards as required;
- Disseminate information on BEAM, and new technologies or solutions that may bring about environmental performance improvements in buildings;
- Promote the awareness of the environmental performance and sustainability of buildings for the benefit of the community;
- Encourage collaboration between parties concerned with the environmental performance and sustainability of buildings;
- Organise events, workshops and functions related to BEAM either solely or in collaboration with others;
- Cooperate with other organisations and governments (national and international) to support and establishment overseas initiatives with objects similar to BEAM;
- Mobilize, and assist in the mobilization of, resources (e.g. funds, grants, donations, etc) and support to further progress the achievement of these objectives;
- Achieve any of the foregoing objectives by promising, applying or donating money, services, facilities or amenities.
